DELTA STATE ATHLETES WILL CONTINUE TO SHOW CLASS IN SPORTS …… CHIEF TONOBOK OKOWA
The Executive Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa has Stated that Delta State athletes will continue to show class and dominate their counterparts in National Championships because of the premium interest the present administration of Sen. Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa attaches to Sport as an avenue to engage the youths of the State and give them opportunity to develop and utilise their Sports potential for their benefit and for the glory of their parents, the State and the country at large.
Chief Okowa stated this in his office on Friday 8th June 2018, when he received the Trophy won by the State Taekwondo Team in the first National Junior Taekwondo Championship, which was held at Abuja on 16th – 19th May 2018.
In the Championship organised by the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria (TFN), to select athletes to represent Nigeria at the African Youth Games taking in Algiers next Months, Delta States athletes dominated in the 10 weight category events.
The State pulled a total of 4Gold, 3Silver and 1bronze medals to top the medal table leaving FCT in a distance second position with 2Gold, 1Silver and 1Bronze medals while Benue and Taraba State were at par in third position with 1Gold and 1Silver medals each.
Meanwhile, six (6) of the State athletes who won medals in the championship are currently in National camp preparatory to Algiers Youth Games.
The athletes are Ugwu O. Success, Peter Blessing, Ebere Benita Barnex, Ochulor Prince, Osomade Philip and Okoye Marshall.
