DR. MICHAEL NWOKO RECEIVES AN EXCELLENCE AWARD FROM THE STUDENT’S UNION GOVERNMENT (SUG) OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

In recognition of his immense contribution to the Student’s Union Government, (SUG) of his alma mater, the Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa (Special Duties) on Contributory Health Commission, Dr. MICHAEL NWOKO was yesterday honoured with an excellence award in his office.
Presenting the award, the Speaker of the Student’s Union Government (SUG), of the University of Benin, Comrd. Efe Adje said they carefully looked through their records before they decided to pick Dr. MICHAEL NWOKO as the recipient of the award, and it is their hope and expectation that the award will propel and spur him to do more and of course to always give back and remember his Alma mater from where he started.
“it is with great joy that we present this award to not just a product of the great University of Benin, but also to one of us who was actively involved in the Student’s Union movement,
He added that seeing some of their own in leadership position inspired them to work harder and achieve more so they can also take up the mantle of leadership in future”
Dr. Nwoko who felt highly elated and emotional, thanked the leadership of the Student’s Union Government, (SUG) of his great Alma mater for the honour bestowed on him, said it was for him, a moment of reflection, thinking about his little contribution in the student’s struggle during in his days as a student in University.
Dr. Nwoko gave an account of how he lead a protest of about five hundred students when he was the Representative of the famous 500 lecture Theatre, a lecture hall where over 6,000 science based students receive lectures in their 100 level, a protest and dialogue with the University authority that eventually led to the decentralization of the lectures halls and creation of a more conducive learning environment afterwards.
According to Dr. Nwoko,
“the idea behind pioneering a struggle, is that the fight is not for the individual alone, but for generations yet unborn, and when the struggle scales through, the individual who pioneered it will forever be remembered”. Dr. Nwoko went further to recount his several involvement in Student’s Union activities that helped to guarantee the welfare of Student’s.
He urged them to remain focused and committed to their academic success while propagating the cause of student’s Unionism.
The Director, Security and intelligence of the Ned Nwoko Campaign Organization who is also an alumnus of the University of Benin, the Admin Manager, Mrs Queensly Uzoka, some Staff of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission and a host of others joined DR. MICHAEL NWOKO for the brief ceremony in his office. They all congratulated Dr. Nwoko and wished him well in all his endeavors.
The delegation of the Student’s Union Government led by the Speaker includes; the Vice President, Comrd. Ella Osagie, the P.R.O., Comrd. Moses Aguainede, A parliamentarian, Comrd. Memos Okoh and NANS representative, Comrd. Ehiogun Kenneth.
