As Nigeria witnessed unabated rise in the number of Covid-19 victims on daily basis, the administration of His Excellency, Sen. Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, has been rousingly commended for taken proactive actions which have in no small measures, mitigated the spread of the global pandemic virus to Delta State.
The commendations was made by Dr Kingsley Amaihunwa, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor, Health Monitoring.
Dr Amaihunwa, who was speaking to reporters after visiting the Sapele Sea Port on Thursday 3rd February, said, ‘I have just visited the borders at Ethiope West LGA, the Sapele Sea port after returning from a similar visit to Warri Port, we are going round to monitor the level of compliance of the Government lockdown order and I am very impressed with level of compliance I have observed among Deltans and residents of the state.’
‘Right here in Sapele Port, although not much activities is recorded here as compare to Warri port or elsewhere in the country, we have to go round to encourage the personnel here, never to allow people from other state to sneak into the state through the port. We are not given room to chances. We must be at every point of entering into the state to ensure infected persons have no access to enter the state to spread the virus. He maintained.
On the vex question of the reasons for the lockdown when there is no report of any outbreak in the state, Dr Amaihunwa said, ‘those who are asking such question seems not to understand the magnitude of what the global community is contending with right now. This is a virus that have overwhelmed the medical professions, it has no effective vaccine and no effective therapeutic cure. Coupled with this, it is highly contagious and deadly if not diagnosed early enough. In fact the administration of His Excellency, Sen. Dr Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, should be commended for taken proactive actions which have in no small measures, mitigate the spread of the disease to the state.’
Continuing, the SSA added, ‘so far as at today, no index case of Covid-19 is reported in the State and with our continue adherence to the Covid-19 committee recommendations, Delta state will overcome the monster virus. He stated.
Dr Amaihunwa, also admonished security operatives enforcing the lockdown order to be humane while handling defiance cases.
