By Jerry Onwuma

The Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has called on political leaders and Corporate Organizations across the various LGA’s in the State to assist their constituents to pay and subscribe for premium and under the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme (DSCHS).

Dr. Nwoko made the call on the 15th of October, in a live television program on Delta Broadcasting Service where he featured as a guest.

The SSA while narrating the success recorded so far under the Delta State Contributory Scheme, disclosed that the scheme which is a brain child of his Excellency, Gov Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has recorded tremendous success with over 630,000 enrollees, currently benefiting from the scheme.

According to him, Delta State rates number one in health sector reform and policies across the Nation, as it remains the 1st State to replicate a better version of the Federal Government’s National Health Insurance Scheme, and so far other States are beginning to emulate the Delta State model of Health Insurance Scheme.

Dr. Nwoko further stated that there is an urgent need for a greater number of the informal sector to come on board as the benefits derivable from the Health Scheme is enormous, as it affords the enrollees the chances to access various degrees of health care even when such individuals may not have physical cash, thereby taking away the difficulties that comes with what he referred to as “out of pocket expenses”

“Health challenge comes unannounced, as such, it could happen at a time when an individual may not have physical cash, but as a beneficiary of the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme, you can always access various levels of health care without necessarily paying for it from ones pocket, since each enrollee benefits from the pull of fund”

“But often times, we have a situation where certain members of the public from the informal sector in the State which includes farmers, market Women, artisans etc.. are unable to register for the scheme due to financial constraint, Dr Nwoko noted”
