Delta PDP Suspends Senator Nwaoboshi, To Face Disciplinary Committee.

By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq.

Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has pulled the sledge hammer on one of the founding members of the party, and Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, for exhibiting what the party termed “anti party activities and conduct unbecoming of a party chieftain.”

It will be recalled that the federal lawmaker alleged to be having political romance cum alliance with the opposition party, and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC; resorted to unprovoked media attacks on the state leader of PDP and governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, obviously to oil his political connections with leaders of the opposition and members of his cabal in the state.

Senator Nwaoboshi unjustly berated Okowa, over PDP power rotation agreement, whereas there was never a time the incumbent governor of the state, mentioned any senatorial district that will produce the party candidate for the 2023 governorship election.

Media reports quoted governor Okowa as saying that at the appropriate time, leaders of the party in the state will meet to decide strategies for 2023 governorship election and play politics. Okowa did not mention any district that will produce the next governor after his tenure, but Nwaoboshi decided to pour venom on the governor and called him unprintable names.

The distinguished Senator was also quoted as saying that previous administrations in the state performed better than Okowa administration, and that the governor refused to develop Asaba, the state capital, without backing his misleading statements with empirical evidence and/or performance comparative analysis to justify his allegations.

In a statement by the state publicity secretary of PDP, Dr Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, and made available to newsmen, the party rebuked Senator Nwaoboshi, over his unprovoked attacks on governor Okowa, and disclosed that the State Working Committee, SWC, suspended the Senator for a a period of one month, at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday 23rd June, 2021.

The party spokesman also disclosed that the Senator representing the good people of Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Nwsoboshi, will face the party disciplinary committee, to defend his negative actions under the principles of “fair hearing.”

“The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Delta State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rising from an emergency meeting, has suspended the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly SENATOR PETER ONYELUKA NWAOBOSHI, for a period of ONE MONTH.

“This action has become necessary against the backdrop of the recent romance with an opposition Party, verbal recklessness, and unprovoked utterances of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, particularly against the person of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State, which the PDP State Working Committee views strongly as totally unacceptable, disturbing and unbecoming of a politician and party member of his stature.

“The PDP State Working Committee is in no doubt that the rash, unguarded, confused and heavily noxious, and vitriolic attacks by Senator Nwaoboshi, a serving Senator and a very recent Chairman of our great Party, are potentially inimical to the peace and harmony of the Party and tantamount to causing discord and disaffection among loyal Party members.

“The suspension, therefore, though obligatory, has sadly become imperative and inevitable, especially given the dramatic spontaneity and overzealousness of his verbal attacks, which are totally out of character and may have suspiciously been induced by circumstances which defy immediate rational analysis and comprehension.

“The matter has been referred to the State Disciplinary Committee, in order to afford Senator Nwaoboshi a fair hearing and the opportunity to appear before it and defend himself over his recent utterances and actions against the Party and its leadership, in the State.

“We urge all Party faithful to remain calm in the face of these provocations and maintain the peace, maturity, and Party harmony which have been and will continue to remain the hallmarks of our great Party,” Osuoza said.
