DISREGARD PURPORTED LIST OF SENATORS AND MEMBERS-ELECT BECAUSE IT’S NOT AUTHENTICATED BY INEC

Strong indications have emerged that high wire intrigues, bribery and manipulations are underway in the National Assembly as some desperate politicians scheme to illegally smuggle their names into the list of Senators and House of Representatives members to be inaugurated on Tuesday, 11 June.

Delta PDP stakeholders, from left Ighoyota Amori, Prince Dr. Ned Nwoko, ex-Gov. James Ivory and Send. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, leader of the party and the Executive Governor of Delta State.

However, such unlawful antics will surely meet a brick wall on that day because what some of them are holding are either expired or invalid certificates of return.
The first and most important requirement for the inauguration of a senator or member-elect as required by law is the presentation of the original copy of the certificate of return duly issued by INEC.
As at today, Prince Ned Nwoko has the only valid and current certificate of return duly issued to him last month by INEC as the Senator -elect for Delta North senatorial district. A list published ex-parte by the controversial clerk of National Assembly cannot be superior to the one issued and authenticated by the INEC as the body statutorily charged with the conduct of elections in Nigeria including the determination of those validly elected.
At any rate, the good news is that those who disingenuously smuggled their names into the unapproved list would be screened out on the eve of the 9th National Assembly inauguration which is Monday 10th June, 2019. That day, the pre-inauguration final screening will take place and last till midnight. The exercise will be carried out by officers representing the INEC, the Secret Service, Code of Conduct Bureau and the Nigerian Police. It’s only those cleared at that screening that would be sworn in.

It’s NOT the duty of the National Assembly to pre-qualify anybody or determine who’s validly returned or not as a Senator or Member of House of Representatives. It’s entirely the duty of INEC.
Is it not enough proof of the illegality of the list published today in some newspapers that the Clerk of National Assembly, Alh ooaji Mohammed Ataba Sani-Omolori was the sole signatory of the notice instead of the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmud Yakubu who’s still alive and licking? The implication of this is that the purported list cannot be said to be authentic simply because it was published in newspapers by some persons.
Most Nigerians are now too civilised to swallow every thrash in print as gospel truth. NO and no more.
