DR. MICHAEL NWOKO CALLS FOR THE CONSOLIDATION OF DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA.

The charismatic Special Assistant (Special Duties) to Governor of Delta State on Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Michael Nwoko has called on different organs of government to assert their Independence inorder to consolidate on the Nation’s hard earned democracy.
The young dynamic SA to Governor Okowa made the call why featuring on Golden Ride, a Voice of Delta Television News current affairs programme, Focus with Akpati Ogwude.

His words, “the electoral reforms instituted by Late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua should be consolidated upon to achieve free, fair and credible elections where in the outcome of elections at all levels reflects the will of the people and ensure that the electorates have more confidence in the electoral process.”

Dr. Nwoko further added, “without electoral reforms, the people will believe less in democracy which ordinarily should be the will of the people.”
He further said, “before the elections, the people were full of expectations based on the declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission. He further posited, that free, fair and credible elections as well as internal party democracy by political parties will mitigate litigations.”

Continuing, Dr Nwoko said, “for democracy to strive, there must be the rule of law and the principle of the doctrine of separation of powers as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended must be adhered to, while the different organs of government must assert their independence.”

On the roles of the military on election matters, Dr. Nwoko said, “the military should know its constitutional roles and duties by ensuring there are no incursions into areas that will undermine its image.”

He concluded by thanking Deltans for re electing Gov. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for a second tenure adding that the landslide victory recorded by the Governor is a reflection of the will of Deltans in recognition of the melodramatic changes in the State since the inception of Gov. Okowa’s administration.
