The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has stated that Gov. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is passionate about the well-being of Deltans. He made this known on Wednesday, 28th, August, 2019 when he paid a courtesy visit to Delta State Publishing and Printing Company Ltd, the publishers of the Pointer Newspaper where he met with the General Manager, and top management team of the Company.

Addressing the top leadership of the company, Dr. Nwoko commended the management and staff for their good work in promoting the laudable programs and policies of the State Government.

He reminded them that their commendable role in propagating the marvelous job being done in the State by His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has helped Deltans to understand, embrace and benefit from the laudable programs of the State Government, especially, the Contributory Health Scheme, which he described as the cornerstone of healthcare service globally.

The SSA to the Governor, noted that His Excellency’s passion for quality, accessible and affordable health care service to Deltans, motivated him to established the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme and its clearing house, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission, where he was privileged to serve as a Special Assistant to the Governor.

He further stated that Health insurance is recognised globally as the way to guaranty quick, effective, quality and affordable Healthcare service for the people and that, because the Governor has great interest for the well-being of Deltans, he wasted no time to establish the Scheme in the State, as soon as he was sworn into office in 2015..

He posited that the beauty of the scheme lies on the simple fact that enrollees are always attended to at first point of contact and that enrollees in the scheme do not need to pay from their pocket for drugs and treatment when faced with health challenges.
Dr. Nwoko added that the Contributory Health Scheme has recorded tremendous success with over five hundred thousand (500,000) Deltans currently enrolled and benefiting from the scheme.

According to Dr. Nwoko, such high rate of enrollment would not be possible without the support of the media, particularly, the Pointer News paper.

He stated that in recognition of the pivotal role the Pointer Newspaper is playing in the propagation of the State government’s policies and programs, he and members of his team deemed it necessary to visit the management of the media house to solicit their unflinching and unbridle support in the area of educating and enlightening Deltans on the benefits of the Contributory Health Scheme.

The SSA, equally used the opportunity to highlight his job schedule, which entails monitoring, evaluation of health care facilities across the twenty five LGA’s in the State and bridging the gab between the Health care providers and the enrollees of the scheme by carrying out regular public enlightenment campaigns on the gains derived from enrolling in the scheme.

Responding to the address by the SSA, the General Manager of Delta State Publishing and Printing Company, Mr Monday Uwagwu, described Governor Okowa as a man whom he has known for over 30 years as a medical practitioner who placed high premium on the health and well-being of the people.

The GM added that the Governor, as a senator, demonstrated his love for the people’s wellness, by sponsoring a bill for the establishment of National Health Insurance Commission and went ahead to put his vision into practice as soon as he was elected Governor of Delta State. He agreed with the SSA that the Health Insurance Scheme is the best way to go in ensuring quality and affordable heath delivery for Deltans and emphasised the need to properly enlightene the people on the need for them to take their health very seriously, pointing out that because of the nonchalant attitude of the people concerning their health, ailments that should have been treated at the primary healthcare level are ignored until it escalates to the point of referring such patient to the secondary or tertiary health facilities.

Mr. Uwagwu commended Governor Okowa for his developmental giant strive in Delta State, maintaining that his Excellency will no doubt leave an indelible mark in the Delta State, as his achievements in the health sector, is unprecedented.
