The National President of Muaythai Federation of Nigeria (MFN) , Comrade Paul Egonu has called on State Commissioners and Directors of Sports to prepare their athletes to attend the forthcoming National Open Muaythai Championship.
He stated that the competition was scheduled to hold in Ogun State next month.
Comrade Egonu made the call recently when he visited the Secretary General of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tunde Popoola, in Lagos State.
According to him, Muaythai is a discipline sport that has the capacity to reduce youth restiveness in the country.
“If you practise Muaythai it will teach you how to be self disciplined and control your emotions at all time, no doubt, it has similarities with kickboxing but Muaythai has her own technicalities and practice,” Comrade Egonu said.
The president used the forum to appeal to NOC to give legal recognition to the sport and make it as a medal scoring sport.
“I am appealing to well meaning Nigerians, corporate organisations, local government chairmen and game masters in schools to promote and develop the sport in the country. We equally want NOC and National Sports Commission (NSC) to incorporate Muaythai so that it can be a medal scoring sport,” he added.
