OKOWA/NED 2019 AND THE EXPECTATIONS OF ANIOMA CITIZENS …. Dr. Michael Nwoko.
By Jerry Onwuma
In a chat with Newsmen in his office at Asaba, the Special Assistant (Special Duties) to the Governor on Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Michael Nwoko stated that majority of ‘Ndi Anioma’ looked forward to the election of Hon Ned Nwoko as the senator representing Delta North senatorial district in 2019, to complement the good work of Gov. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.
In a clear demonstration of utmost conviction about the people’s will to elect Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko, he asked rhetorically “is there any adult in Delta North that is not aware of Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko’s philanthropic gestures”?
He submitted that based on service and contribution to the well being of the entire district, Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko has shown capacity and trust.
Speaking further, the SA drew the attention of the media crew to Hon. Ned’s antecedence beginning from 1999 when he represented Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency at the House of Representative.
He reminded the press men that as a young man then, buzzing with enthusiasm, zeal and quest for political ascendancy, he was not carried away by monetary fantasies but chose to donate his earnings to the needy.
In an attempt to chronicle Hon. Ned’s show of concern for his people and the development of the district, Dr. Nwoko noted that he assisted in championing various courses in the Green Chambers that included; dualisation of Benin/Asaba Road, the need for an airport in Asaba, the establishment of a federal university in the district and show of interest in many other bills that were of great benefit to his people.
He followed this with a bold statement to the powers that be in 2003; insisting that an indigene of Anioma was qualified to vie for the Governorship of the state.
He matched action with words when he contested in the gubernatorial election of 2003. His persistent belief that no section of the state was subservient to others, even against perceived victimization from supposed brothers did not deter his vision.
In Dr. Michael Nwoko’s words “Though he lost the election, that bold step obviously engendered awareness in our people’s consciences that an indigene of anioma could actually aspire and become the Governor of Delta State”.
The dream has fruitfully come to manifestation today with the assumption of Gov. Okowa, who in all ramifications is fulfilling the expectations of majority of Deltans through development of all sectors.
As the 2018 PDP Primaries and 2019 senatorial election draw near, the battle for who secures the party’s consent to represent delta north district in Abuja has become a ‘hot contest’.
According to Dr. Nwoko, this was actually expected because Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko is greatly loved by the people; they know that he is one man that is given to humility, sincerity and service.
In a gentle disposition, Dr. Nwoko reasoned with the media crew, that the need for PDP to present a candidate whose personage would ease campaigns during the general elections and one that would complement the giant strides of the working Governor cannot be overemphasized.
In conclusion, the Special Assistant spoke assuredly that Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko is the right candidate for Delta North Senatorial district because his followership, without any form of inducement or coercion, cuts across the entire district. He is the man that would naturally influence votes of even the non-partisan because his antecedence speaks volume of one who would live out his campaign promises.
