.. as he announced Okpochini Anita, the first beneficiary of the University’s scholarship award for her wonderful display at the pool.

The ground breaking ceremony of the proposed premier Sports University in Africa, south of Sahara, the Stars University, Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State, performed April 3rd, 2018, witnessed numerous exciting side events.
Among such events was The 1st Prince Ned Nwoko Swimming Competition.

The two-day championship fixture about 60 young swimming talents drawn from across the Local Government Areas in Delta State.

The Tournament sponsor, Prince Ned Nwoko and ex International football star, John Fashanu with the swimming officials posed for the press.

The 14 events (male and female), competed for at the finals include;
50m freestyle,
50m backstroke,
50m butterfly,
100m freestyle,
100m butterfly,
4 X 400m medley and
4 X 400m freestyle.

At the end of the tension parked and exciting display by the youngsters, Okpochini Anita showed class by clinging a total of 5 Gold medals, made up of 3 singles Gold and 2 team Gold medals.

In presenting the medals to the participants, the Star Prince of Anioma land, Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko, who is the championship sole sponsor, said, “I am very happy to witness the high level of swimming skills you all put up in this championship and I believe with some encouragement, you will go far to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games.”
While expressing sadness at the Nigeria’s Olympic records in Swimming, Prince Ned Nwoko remarked, “Nigeria had not been doing well in swimming at the global stage, it is sad to see that while a single individual like Michael Phelps of US, won 8 single Gold medals in one Olympic, the entire Nigerian team hardly record a medal at the Games, we must take appropriate measures to address this situation,” he said.
While announcing a scholarship award to the Star Swimmer of the championship, Miss Okpochini Anita, Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko said, “I am happy to say that you are the first beneficiary of the University scholarship scheme, you are free to study any course of your choice and make good use of the facilities we have here to improve your performance, I want to see that you win the first Olympic gold in swimming for our country.’ ‘More of such scholarships award are coming.’
‘The facilities we have here must to be put into good use to groom upcoming sports talents, this is the reason for establishing the University.’ ‘We have hosted different championships here, we have hosted Golf Tournament, Tennis Championship and now this Swimming Competition and we will continue to host competitions here to catch them young.” He concluded.

Okpochini Anita is a young swimming sensational athletes, she recorded the first swimming gold for Delta State at the last National Youth Games, hosted by Unilorin, Kwara State, last year. She has equally won several gold medals for the State in major national swimming championships.

In her appreciations to the Dike Anioma, Prince Ned Nwoko, Miss Anita Okpochini thanked him for his benevolent spirit and pray God to grant him good health and long life. She pledged to make good use of the opportunity given to her by the scholarship award to improve her performance and advised her team mates to work hard to achieve results in the Sport.
