The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko, has described the development of the health sector as germane and critical for economic growth and development of the society.

Dr. Nwoko stated this on Tuesday 20th August, while responding to questions by reporters at Trend FM, Asaba, when he paid a courtesy visit to the radio house.

The SSA who acknowledged the roles the media outfit is playing in disseminating vital information to the people of Delta State, told the management of the radio station that he has decided to make it a point of duty to visit the station to appreciate the management for all they have been doing in the areas of projecting and propagating the policies and programs of the State Government and to solicit their unflinching support in enlightening Deltans on the laudable and extensive healthcare delivery services been made available by the administration of Governor Okowa of Delta State.
Dr. Nwoko maintained that such enlightenment is necessary for the people to know what the Governor is doing to help Deltans meet health challenges, key into these programs and get maximum benefits from them.

The SSA also used the medium to emphasised the importance of monitoring and evaluation, which he said are necessary for regular assessments of policy goals and appraisals of both the manpower needs as well as the material resources demand in the sector.

Dr. Nwoko added that such feedbacks enable Government take necessary actions for the overall interest and benefit of the people.

The SSA, latter visited The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Asaba, where he enumerated the giant strives of Governor Okowa on healthcare delivery and particularly mentioned the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, which he said has an enrollment of more than half a million Deltans and still counting.

While mentioning other areas in which the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi A. Okowa, has excelled in ensuring the provision of quality, accessible and affordable healthcare delivery services to Deltans, the SSA, appealed to NTA to use the advantage of its wide coverage to enlighten Deltans on the benefits of keying into the programs and policies of the Governor, especially the benefits of enrolling for the novel Health Insurance Scheme, which he emphasised, guaranties quick, accessible and affordable healthcare delivery services to all enrollees of the program.

The SSA further went on to enumerate the gains of successive administrations in the health sector since the creation of the State.

As part of his familiarization visits to important health institutions and media houses in the State, Dr. Nwoko, on Monday 19th August, paid courtesy visit to the Hospital Management Board where he met with the Permanent Secretary and Chief Executive officer, Dr. A. Pemu who pledged the total support of the Board in the discharge of the duties assigned to the SSA by His Excellency, the Governor as he has no doubt in his mind that Dr. Michael Nwoko whom he has known over the years has the capacity to deliver and succeed in the Office.
