THE NEW SPECIALIST HOSPITAL, ASABA ONE OF THE BEST HEALTH FACILITIES IN NIGERIA —Dr. Michael Nwoko.

The young and eloquent Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has stated that the new Specialist hospital in Asaba is one of the best health facilities in the Country and that it will render excellent health care service to the public if fully operational.
He made this known while addressing the press after being conducted round the units, departments and major medical installations at the new Specialist Hospital, Asaba.

The SSA who arrived at the Hospital at 7.53 am, on Wednesday 4th August, was at the hospital as part of his ongoing monitoring and evaluation visits to Healthcare facilities in the State.
He was conducted round the facility by the acting Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Peace Ighosewe and top management Staff of the Hospital.

Dr. Nwoko and his team visited the pediatric ward, neonatal ward, Ophthalmology unit, maternity and labor wards, male and female wards, the laboratory, pharmacy, accident and emergency ward etc. He was equally conducted round the world class sickle cell center built and equipped by Her Excellency, Dame Edith Okowa.

He further stated that what we have seen in this facility are modern medical equipment capable of delivering excellent health care service to enrollees of the Contributory Health Scheme and the general public in line with the universal health coverage policy as encapsulated in the Stronger Delta Agenda of His Excellency Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State.

The SSA added, that with the huge amount Governor Okowa is investing in the the health sector, it has become imperative to monitor and evaluate these facilities for proper appraisal in order to guarantee effective health care delivery in the State.
We are equally involved in sensitising the people of Delta State on the measures put in place by His Excellency, to meet their health care challenges, so that they can key into the Contributory Health program and and get the benefits. “We are also playing the role of bridging the gap between the healthcare providers and enrollees of the Health Insurance Scheme” He said.

Deltans must be properly enlightened on what the government has put in place to meet their Healthcare needs adding that the hospital is currently on a test run, and will become the pride of the State and serve as reference point for other States of the Federation.
‘It is no gain saying the fact that His Excellency’s vision for healthcare delivery service will soon turn the State to a major Medical tourism hub in the Country.’ he maintained.

Dr. Nwoko also used the opportunity to encourage Deltans to enroll for the Contributory Health Insurance Scheme, adding that enrollment in the scheme will give them tickets to enjoy quality, accessible and affordable healthcare service.

In her response, the acting Medical Director, Dr. Peace Ighosewe said that the hospital started operational test run in February 2019 and that so far, the hospital has been performing very well and that the patient load is increasing on daily basis.
The acting Medical Director also stated that most of the equipment needed for full capacity operation have been procured and that as soon as the remodeling of the buildings are complete, the hospital will be running 100% capacity.

The acting Medical Director whilst thanking the Governor for the appointment of the SSA on Health Monitoring, stated that Monitoring and Evaluation of health care facilities is key to the effective operation of the facilities. She pleaded with the SSA to communicate their major challenge which is epileptic power supply to the Governor.
