The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has said that Delta State is ahead of other States of the Federal in terms of achieving the Universal Health Coverage policy.

Dr. Nwoko made this known while addressing journalists during the just concluded National Council on Health meeting which was held in Asaba from 9th to 13th September, 2019. During the interview session, the able SSA to the Governor equally addressed a lot of issues that bothers on the health indices of Delta State and the Country at large as well as the theme of this year’s event, ‘Consolidating the journey towards achieving Universal Health Coverage’

In his words” What we are seeing in Asaba this week and the unprecedented turn up of participants in the 2019 National Council on Health being hosted in Asaba, Delta State is an indication that Delta State is far ahead of other States when it comes to achieving the Universal Health Policy.’

He further added, ‘His Excellency, having laid a foundation for the Basic Health care program and its funding by reason of the bill he sponsored as a Senator of the Federal Republic, have also succeeded in enacting and implementing many laudable Health Care policies in the State since the inception of his administration in 2015.’

These policies the SSA continued, ‘includes but not limited to the establishment of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission which is currently driving the Health Insurance Scheme in the State and the strengthening of the State’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency to effectively drive primary health care service in the State”.

Dr. Nwoko further posited that Health Insurance and Primary Health Care Service are very strong indicators for actualizing Universal Health Coverage all over the World and this guarantees affordable, accessible and quality Healthcare for all. He continued by stating that Delta State being the first State in the Country to officially lunch its Health Insurance Scheme is far ahead of other States of the Federation when it comes to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

When asked his advice to Deltans on the Occassion of the event? The SSA maintained that His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the Governor of Delta State is a political enigma and colossus who knows how to use the instrument of Governance to better the lots of the people adding that Deltans can testify to the melodramatic changes brought about by Governor Okowa particularly in the health sector since the inception of his administration in 2015.

The eloquent SSA to the Governor concluded by calling upon Deltans whom are yet to enroll in the Contributory Health Scheme to do so in order not to be shortchanged as the benefits are enormous. He promised to use his office as SSA to the Governor on Health Monitoring to carry out effective Monitoring and Evaluation of all the Health Care facilities in the State as well as the Ministry, its agencies and Commission in order to ensure optimal performance.
